This is modern Arabic and Islamic calligraphy design (in the style that Professor Nihad Dukhan has developed) of a verse from the Quran, Surah 88. The verse says: “faces that Day will be joyful”. We note here the layout of the three words of this verse, where the phrase ‘faces that day’ are combined and placed at the top left corner, and the word ‘joyful’ is enlarged and emphasized. From the rest of this verse, we understand why these faces are joyful: they are “Pleased with their striving, In a Garden on high, Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity.” The verse is intended to encourage striving to do good deeds in this life, in order to get these fine rewards in the hereafter.

There are few innovative connections between some of the Arabic letters in this design. Two examples of this are the connections between the Jeem and Waw in the word Wojoohun; and between the Meem and Hamza aly kursi in the word Youmaithin. A third example is the connection between Ayn, Meem and Taa marbouta in the words Naiema. Nonetheless, all words is remain legible.

هذا تصميم للآية الثّامنة من سورة الغاشية من القرآن الكريم: وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ ناعِمَةٌ منفّذ بأسلوب الخطّ الحديث الذي طوّره أ.د. نهاد دخان.

كلمات الآية محوّرة وموزّعة علي مساحة اللّوحة بشكل فريد. فالكلمتان ” وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ” مجموعتان وموضوعتان في الزّاوية اليسرى في أعلى اللّوحة، بينما كلمة “ناعمة” فهى مكبّرة و تحتلّ حيّزاً كبيراً من اللّوحة لما تحويه هذه الكلمة من معاني البشرى للذّين يعملون الخير في الحياة الدّنيا.

الآيات الّتي تتبع هذه الآية تخبرنا قليلاً عن أصحاب الوجوه النّاعمة يوم القيامة: لِسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ، فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ، لَا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَةً.

التّصميم يحتوي على بعض الإبداعات في الوصل بين بعض الحروف العربيّة. على سبيل المثال الوصل بين الجيم و الواو في كلمة وجوه، وبين الميم والهمزة على كرسي في كلمة يَوْمَئِذٍ، وبين العين والميم و التّاء المربوطة في كلمة ناعِمَةٌ. ولكن على أيّ حال تبقى الكلمات مقروءة.
