It has been said: the pen is mightier than the sword. The pen is indeed the agent of the mind and a metaphor for the intellect and intellectual discourse.

The design presented here is a stylized version of the word pen in Arabic (Kalam or Qalam) in my modern Arabic calligraphy. The long slender vertical line and the sharp point at the bottom give an impression of a pen. The two dots, which are part of the Arabic letter Qaaf, are used to give a hint to drops of ink (characteristic of fountain pens). Again this piece is a good example of sculpting in two dimensions.

This design has been used by Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), Istanbul, Turkey, and has been turned into a three-dimensional sculpture to commemorate the 250^th anniversary of this major Turkish university. The sculpture was erected at the Arı Gate entrance on Ayazağa Campus in June of 2016, and can been seen here

لقد قيل القلم أمضي من السّيف. والقلم رسول العقل، وهو كناية عن التّفكير والكتابة.

هذا تصميم لكلمة قلم بأسلوب الخط الحديث الذي طوّرته منذ سنين.

الخط العمودي الطّويل والسّنّ المدبّب عند أسفل الكلمة يدلّان على شكل القلم. أمّا النقطتان العموديتان فتعطيان إيحاءأً بقطرات الحبر.

هذا التّصميم نموذج جيّد لما يسمّي “النّحت في بعدين”.

في الحقيقة لقد تمّ إقامة تمثال ثلاثي الأبعاد لكلمة قلم هذه. التّمثال يزيّن مدخل جامعة إستانبول التّقنيّة في ضاحية أيازغا بإستانبول في تركيا.يمكن رؤية التّمثال في الصّورة أعلاه، كما ويمكن الرّجوع إلى المقال الموجود هنا
